On December 8th, Bowery Palm Beach opens its doors in the space formerly occupied by BB Kings, La Fayette’s Music Room and Legal Seafood. The owners and management team moved to West Palm Beach from St. John, Virgin Islands with the goal of bringing their coastal experience to the bustle of Cityplace.
If you haven’t been to the space, it’s across from Muvico on the second floor. The space overlooks Cityplace and the Historic Harriet Himmel Theatre and when the doors are open, the view is unlike any other. While we were eating a wedding was ending at the Theatre and we got the perfect seats for watching the bride and groom come out of the Church and ride away in the horse-drawn carriage that waited at the foot of the stairs.
The space also includes three bars, the restaurant and the “music room”.
I had the opportunity to enjoy the preview dinner. The signature dishes focus on comfort food with an ocean twist. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was fantastic with massive pieces of lobster. I also tried the Clam Linguini which was phenomenal.
The “Take a Bao” section of the menu features soft Bao buns with Alligator, Shrimp, Lamb and Pork fillings. I was tempted by the Alligator, but I decided to save it for next time and went with Lamb.
The music room is behind the restaurant. The concept is that patrons will have dinner at the restaurant before shows, and then move to the music room to enjoy bands that are performing. The music room has a much different vibe and will have a smaller menu with finger foods.
This space is large and in my opinion has never been used to its full potential. To make it work, the management will need to put a lot of work into booking the kinds of bands that will draw people in and fill up the space. If they can get the right bands, it has the potential to be huge draw to Cityplace and the City of West Palm Beach.
To wrap this up, I’m very excited about this new addition to our downtown dining scene, wish the team the best of luck, and look forward to spending time there with my downtown friends and neighbors.
