Head over to Armory Art Center from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. for an art salon with Terre Rybovich. $10 donation is payable at the door. Armory Art Center is located at 811 Park Place.

Four of Terre Rybovich’s unique large scale charcoal drawings were on view in Montgomery Hall of the Armory Art Center until January 6, when she was one of the artists talking about their work at the closing reception for the 2nd Biennial “Artists of Art Salon” Exhibition. Two more are on display at 1608 Gallery upstairs from Stephen Johnson’s Framing Co. on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach.

Terre’s drawings each began by charcoaling the entire surface and then lying down on it. She says “The idea came to me years ago when I was delirious with the flu. ‘Drawing backwards’ is how it initially presented itself. In other words, removing charcoal to create an image instead of adding charcoal to a white sheet of paper. Because I was focused on figurative work, the body seemed like the most promising means for removing charcoal. And it was. The imprints were subtle but they were also powerful, even edifying.
